Brutal Brawl... Reprogramming

So i finally faced the facts: I can either reprogram Brutal Brawl so that it works better and is easier to modify or i can work very hard to try and salvage the ultimately broken current system (and probably not do a very good job of it).
However, that said I have some very great ideas for the new system:
Idea one:
All the fighters are a set of variables that modify what a master parent object is (it doesn't matter if you do understand as long as I do).
-Fixes:
--Makes it ALOT easier to implement new fighters
--various small problems
Idea two:
The thing that hits the floor is a different thing that what hits the players
